Overview
The CATVolt DualVolt 500 converts between 220 V and 110 V in either direction, so imported US- or Japan-spec equipment runs safely on South African mains — and SA equipment runs on 110 V supplies abroad. It is rated 500 VA (425 W) for continuous duty: leave it connected and working, not just for short bursts.
It handles 50 and 60 Hz supplies, covering appliances, audio and studio gear, lab instruments and small tools. One thing no transformer changes is the frequency itself — most electronics are happy either way, but check motor-driven or clock-timed equipment against its nameplate before running it across regions.
Like everything in CAT.store, the DualVolt 500 is specified and supplied by the engineering practice behind PRODUCT.design: we confirm the fit for your application before we quote, and every quote is confirmed within one business day.

Sizing & Compatibility
Size with headroom: add roughly a quarter above the equipment nameplate rating, and more for anything with a motor or compressor, which draws a surge at start-up. If the load works out above about 400 W continuous, step up to the DualVolt 3000 instead.
The transformer converts voltage, not frequency — 50 Hz stays 50 Hz. Unsure whether your equipment cares? Ask us with the nameplate details and we'll confirm before you order.
